On Wednesday, January 15th, Diane Sawyer and ABC News ran a brilliant piece on TimeBanking. The focus was on The Louisville TimeBank, which is located in Diane Sawyer’s hometown. The Louisville TimeBank was celebrating its 2nd anniversary, and we were there for the party along with the film crew.

Louisville TimeBank celebrates their 2nd Anniversary
Getting ready for the broadcast was another story.
When the show aired last night, we had just unwrapped our new website, and we took a lot of precautions to ensure we had enough bandwidth for anyone who came to find us after watching. The response was overwhelming. At one point, we were showing 83 pages of this website a SECOND.
In case you missed it, here is a link to the broadcast: Diane Sawyer’s Hometown in Kentucky Saves Money By Helping Each Other Out
For anyone who had trouble getting to our website during the broadcast, we are sorry for your inconvenience. We were humbled by the response.
And we were inspired by the response, that so many people took steps last night to be a part of this movement. Lets keep it going!
Was amazed with this story..my son and I have had many coversations about wishing something like this could exist. .I would love to be a part of this!
Great and wonderful! Rare to see national news so beautifully present a profound economic alternative. I’ve spoken with Edgar Cahn about merging Time Dollars with paper HOURS, so that time credits can be spend for goods as well as services, and traded spontaneously and informally at shops and garage sales. He agrees. In Ithaca NY, paper HOURS traded millions of dollars value among thousands of residents and 500 businesses. http://www.paulglover.org/hourintro.html
does time bank have a branch in or close to Stevensville, Montana?
Please see the Directory of TimeBanks at: http://community.timebanks.org/ to find one near you. Each local or regional TimeBank organizes itself. There are some that are very active, others are new start-ups, and some that are less active. Some have yearly dues for members, others run on donations only. Some have paid staff others volunteer staff only. Some are very local, others cover a larger region. My point is that TimeBanks can be so different. Please visit the TimeBanks near you and contact them to find out how they work.
I tried to visit the website the evening after the broadcast. I figured the traffic had killed it.
You guessed correctly. The site was not dead but very much overloaded. We had more then 80 visits a second. Although it was sad that you could not immediately connect to our site, it was awesome that there was so much interest. Have a look at our site today.
I was finally able to get on the website and tried to find the list of timebanks, was unable , so I submitted my info to see if there was one in my area, I haven’t gotten any response as of yet. And still am unable to find the link see the where they are. Please help me. I have longed for a group such as this.

Hi Nicole,
Honestly the best way to find out how TimeBanking works is to go on-line and check out materials. On our TimeBanks.org site there is a great video from the Long Beach TimeBank in California.. I think it’s one of the best introductions ever. It’s at http://timebanks.org/what-is-timebanking/ You may also want to go to TimeBankingUK to check out their website. Lots of very helpful material there.
can you trade time credits with someone in one time bank if you belong to a different time bank
Trading between time banks is possible with help from your coordinator. Please contact your TimeBank coordinator to help facilitate this. It usually involves one time bank creating an account in another timebank, and vice versa, to complete the exchange. We are also working on globally connected TimeBank software applications, but this work is not complete. Stay tuned!
